Goleman viewed intelligence in a slightly different perspective. He stressed on people’s emotions rather than people’s ability to complete daily tasks. Goleman strongly argued that people with high intelligence quotient are not always the ones who succeed later on. Instead, he claimed that people need both high emotional intelligence and IQ to be successful and stay peaceful & positive. Goleman’s idea has a problem: it’s too difficult to assess one’s emotional intelligence. Emotion is an intricate aspect that is extremely subtle and changeable. Assessing such value is going require a plethora of variables, including situations, time, cultural context, social context, etc. Looking at my general tendency to understand others relatively in detail and to understand myself in decent depth, Daniel Goleman would probably say that I have a relatively high emotional intelligence.
